A Hillcrest Update from Pastor Jim | August 10th, 2017
This week, I announced to the good folks at Hillcrest, Spanish Trail, that the David and Nicole Wiggins family are in the process of becoming full-time missionaries through the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. The Wiggins will become the twelfth set of individuals/couples/families to surrender to the call to missions from Hillcrest in recent years. For this, we rejoice together with them and celebrate God’s great calling to take the good news of Jesus Christ to the mission field. As of right now, it appears that the Wiggins will be assigned to the work of discipleship and church planting in London, England.
David and Nicole first shared the news of God’s stirring their hearts with me after inviting me to a lunch meeting just before Thanksgiving last year, so this decision is not one they’ve reached quickly or lightly. Much prayer, counsel, and consideration has been given to this challenging career decision. They handled the process well, and we’ve been blessed to walk through this journey with them along the way. While in one sense there’s always sadness associated with seeing a family of this caliber transition away from Hillcrest, the last thing we want to do is throw ourselves in front of God’s gospel bus and attempt to thwart a move that the Wiggins believe to be God’s clear calling. Ours is a kingdom mindset at Hillcrest, and we see this as yet another opportunity to send from among ourselves those who will bless the nations with the life-changing message of the Gospel.
As for our Spanish Trail campus, the work we’ve started there will continue without interruption. David will continue to serve as Campus Pastor for the immediate future as he completes requirements for formal missionary appointment in November, and transition to Virginia for orientation in January. So, unless circumstances change, the Wiggins will continue at Hillcrest through the end of this year. Jim Carmack and Jordan Christie will also continue in their respective leadership roles as we begin the process of seeking God regarding a future campus pastor for Spanish Trail. So the work will go on, and God will surely continue to provide for our needs, as he always has. I encourage you to pray for David, Nicole, and their family in these important days.
Many blessings and much love.
