GROWTH GROUPS

The Lord Jesus taught His disciples in the setting of a small group. At Hillcrest, we follow our Lord’s example in Growth Groups. Growth Groups meet for a number of weeks to study the Bible together. These studies are organized by topic and are available for men and women of all ages. We encourage you to jump in and take your next steps in becoming like Christ. Register for a Growth Group below!  For more information contact Mariah Rollins in the Church Office.

Ephesians 4:11-16 is the foundational passage, undergirding the vision for Growth Groups (formerly known as Focus Groups). Therein, Paul teaches that the pastors and teachers were given by Christ for equipping the saints for ministry work, for attaining unity of the faith, and for maturity. In this passage, I see three very clear and distinct categories of Growth Groups that we can offer:

Equipping [These are Growth Groups that are designed to teach a specific skill. E.g. Prayer, evangelism, discipling, parenting]
Doctrinal [These are GGs that are designed to teach sound doctrine. E.g. Who is Jesus? What is faith?]
Maturity [These are GGs that are designed to teach Christian character. E.g. How can I be more joyful? Content? Patient?]

What is the goal of this rebranding? To emphasize the purpose and intended outcome. Paul concludes our vision passage with a clear answer to this question:

“Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to GROW UP in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body GROW so that it builds itself up in love.” Ephesians 4:15-16

Discipl(h)er

A main focus here at Hillcrest is to make disciples that make disciples. One way we’re doing this with our women’s ministry is through Discipl(h)er. A discipl(h)er is a spiritually maturing woman that walks alongside other women, helping them to know Christ, live for Christ, and become more like Christ, by using the Word of God, the Wonder of God, and the Work of God.
